Why 35mm film is so popular in wedding photography?

I have seen a lot of 35mm film wedding photographs on Instagram and LOVE it. After studying film at University, I have always enjoyed taking a photograph, not being able to see it and then getting I developed.

Why are couples choosing 35mm film for weddings?

One of the biggest reasons couples are choosing a 35mm film wedding photographer for their wedding is the unmatched colour quality. Film captures skin tones in a soft flattering way, it’s real, authentic.. which I think in the world we live in is something special.

Film also has a nostalgic and emotion feel. A timeless quality that instantly feels sentimental and romantic. The subtle grain adds an emotion depth which is perfect for wedding photography.

Having a limited number of exposures means wedding photographers have to be intentional and thoughtful with that they’re photographing. I know I pay attention to the composition and light, I photographer slower.. knowing I don’t have unlimited photographs.

Why 35mm film is so popular in wedding photography?

Film photograph can cost more, film itself, developing and scanning can be more expensive than digital. But I think it’s so worth it.
