Why I still love wedding photography after nearly 20 years

It occurred to me this morning, whilst walking my dog, that I photographed my first wedding around 18/19 years ago. I was in University and a friend I worked with asked me if I’d photograph her sister’s wedding. A few years later I officially opened my business, I gave myself 5 years to see if id get bookings.. the rest is history.

Why I still love wedding photography after nearly 20 years? Well there’s a few reasons! One of the main reasons is I love meeting different people at every wedding. I love chatting to different family members and meeting very interesting people. I love the family unit and capturing people on such a happy day. The one time where you have everyone you love in one room, I feel very fortunate that this is my job. Capturing the most important people in your life and creating memories you’ll always look back at.

The art of wedding photography is another thing I adore. Weddings are little fashion shoots these days and I must say I like this. Whilst you need to have the family photographs, I love that couples want an editorial Vogue vibe at their weddings. I appreciate a wedding is NOT a fashion photoshoot. But, I love taking arty photographs at weddings.

I love meeting lots of fellow wedding suppliers. I have met some amazing talented people working in the wedding industry and I am so thankful for that. I love seeing everyone’s work on Instagram – so inspiring!

Most of all I really love that this is my job and I get to spend such love filled days with people.
