3 tips for working from home

For years I have worked from the comfort of my own home. Apart from obviously going out to photoshoots and weddings, I do the main bulk of my emailing, editing, paperwork etc from home.

I would usually recommend taking breaks, going outside, meeting friends for coffee to break up the time at home… but obviously we can’t do that..

So here are 3 things I have learnt on the way…

Get dressed.

When I first started working from home, I would very often find myself working all day in pj’s. Whilst it’s comfortable, I definitely find getting dressed (even into loungewear) makes you feel better and makes you more productive. It also gives some structure the day and makes you feel like you have actually gotten ready to start a working day.

(Try to) have work hours.

This I still struggle with. I tend to answer emails whenever I check them. However, this can lead to you never switching off. If you have an office great, shut the door on it at the end of your working hours. But if you don’t, and you’re working on a laptop etc, try to find a way of moving your work things away from you so you can enjoy chill/family time away from work. There needs to be a way to separate the two when they’re in the same household.

Don’t buy biscuits.

I found I snacked a lot when I first began working from home. So I stopped buying biscuits or anything that I’d want to eat when I walked by.
