Make-up tips for your Wedding photographs

Occasionally, Brides will ask me questions about their Bridal make up and how it will photograph. I 100% recommend a professional make up artist on your Wedding day because, well, they know their thing.. and who doesn’t want to be pampered on their Wedding day!?
My friend Jo at Beauty Treats is always answering my make up questions, so I asked her if she would write down some tips!
Jo is a fabulous make up artist. She has trained with MAC, Urban Decay and Peaches and Cream.. so she knows a thing or two! She is always a beautiful person which I also think is massively important on a Wedding day.

Here are her tips!

Prep your skin

It is really important that if you don’t have a skin care routine, you start getting into one. Investing in your skin will go along way into making sure you look amazing on the day! I recommend microdermabrasion treatments for my brides-to-be, as this is ideal for all skin types. Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliation, which helps to minimise scarring, pore size and remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin the perfect, smooth canvas for make up.

Foundation Flashback (Argh!)

When planning make up for your wedding, make sure that your foundation is a low/ no SPF Foundation. The reason for this is if your photographer or a snap happy guest uses a flash (which is generally when indoors in low light), the active ingredients in the sun protection in the foundation can flash back, creating a white glow on your face.
Anything of SPF 10 and lower will be suffice. My favourite bridal foundations are MAC Pro Longwear Foundation and Estee Lauder Double wear, as the coverage is just amazing and truly lasts all day!

Make up that photographs like a dream!

There are certain products in my kit that I just use over and over again on my brides, they photograph so well, yet look natural and flawless in real life. I have various brands of blush but Chanel Blushes just have the most gorgeous pigment that lasts all day. My favourite is Tea Rose which is a beautiful, fresh bridal pink, without being ‘overly’ pink.

My all time favourite concealor is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealor, this is a long lasting formula which covers dark under eye circles and any naughty blemishes that can arise on the wedding morning…(typical!). But this has you covered.

The Mary Lou Manizer by The Balm just gives THE most amazing ‘bridal glow’ to the skin. If there is one product you buy, BUY THIS! It is a champagne gold shimmering highlighter that can be applied to the cheekbones, forehead and décolleté to give the illusion of beautiful, glowing skin.
